Deeply experiential and immersive, this very special sandplay and clay therapy training event offers play and creative arts therapists a unique opportunity to personally engage with these mediums.
A journey of personal discoveries and professional insights, there is no better way to truly understand our clients’ process using sand and clay until we have experienced our own process first.
This immersive event is grounded in Jungian Sandplay Therapy and Gestalt Play Therapy theories. It considers symbolic representation of the psyche (our internal world) as it presents through sandplay and clay and offers specific therapeutic techniques for exploring sandplay and clay creations that can be readily integrated into clinical practice.
Over the three days, numerous sandplay and clay experientials are undertaken to offer both a sandplay and clay therapy process. You will work with a continuous learning partner throughout, providing a safe container for your experience. Our most significant learnings occur through your process and our reflective discussion afterwards.
As the name of this training implies, it is immersive. So to balance out this intensity, we are nurtured with hearty lunches showcasing fresh Tasmanian produce, we’re connected to nature throughout the day with our stunning waterfront view, and of course, our steadfast Kunanyi/Mt Wellington watches over us.
Some pre-Immersive learning will be required prior to arriving in Hobart to maximise our live time together. This consists of approximately 5 hours of pre-recorded videos.
This event is limited to 20 participants to ensure a safe, intimate, and connected personal and professional experience.

TRAINER
Katherine Olejniczak – one of the elders of the play therapy field in Australia. Katherine is Director of Psychology and Play Therapy Australia. She is an experienced psychologist, play therapist, supervisor, trainer, consultant, mentor and leader, and a published author.
Katherine is committed to the growth of play therapy in Australia and is a respected leader in this field. She developed Australia’s only current Play Therapy Supervisor Competencies and the first competency-based Play Therapy Supervisor Training in Australia.
She is also an AHPRA Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor Trainer, and has two PsyBA supervisor masterclasses approved by the Board.
Her specific clinical and leadership interest areas include childhood trauma and recovery; play therapy; interpersonal neuroscience; and integrating interpersonal neuroscience into play therapy process, supervision and leadership development.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This immersive event is designed for play therapists, creative arts therapists, and any other mental health professionals already integrating the use of sand and clay into their therapeutic work with children and/or adults.
POST-TRAINING SUPPORT
To provide a pathway for ongoing reflection, questions and discussion, we have established a closed Facebook Group which all workshop participants are invited to join. All the details will be provided on completion of the training.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
Morning tea and lunch made with yummy local Tassie produce will be provided. Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of registration. If you do not do so, the venue may not be able to cater for your needs.
