Do you sometimes feel like you’re missing a piece of the puzzle when it comes to communicating with the adults or systems around the child about their therapy?
It’s quite possible this piece of your puzzle is case conceptualisation!
Put very simply, case conceptualisation is how we make sense of what is happening for the child – in a concise manner.
Case conceptualisation is a critical element of the therapeutic process which informs development of therapeutic goals and enables effective reporting of progress or change.
This short workshop provides the foundational knowledge for formulating case conceptualisations when working with children. You will be introduced to the 5P’s framework – one of the most commonly used case conceptualisation tools in the psychology and mental health space across Australia.
In addition to theory and examples of case conceptualisation, we will be workshopping one of your own client cases. So, although the workshop will be recorded, to get maximum benefit from this training we encourage you to attend live.
This is Workshop 1 in our Case Conceptualisation and Reporting Progress PD Series:
- Workshop 2: Revisiting case conceptualisation: The cornerstone of therapeutic practice (Recorded workshop, self-paced)
- Workshop 3: Themes in play therapy: Holding all the possibilities (Recorded workshop, self-paced)
- Workshop 4: Report writing: Conceptualising and reporting progress (Recorded workshop, self-paced)
This workshop may be undertaken independently of the series, however if you are early in your career or still growing your confidence in your case conceptualisation skills, we highly recommend you register for the Series, as you will gain most benefit from this workshop if not only are you competent in case conceptualisation, but you know how to use it well in your work!
This workshop is also highly relevant for supervisors in supporting the ongoing development of these competencies in your supervisees.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Apply the 5P’s case conceptualisation framework in your clinical practice
- Utilise the 5P’s alongside your existing theoretical frameworks (e.g. needs-based assessment and intervention, play therapy approach)
- Develop measurable therapeutic goals based on your case conceptualisation
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This training program is essential for play therapists and other child therapists from various professional backgrounds (e.g. psychologists, social workers, counsellors, OTs). Supervisors will also benefit as the workshop offers a helpful process for supporting supervisees in this area of their work.
POST-TRAINING SUPPORT
To provide a pathway for ongoing reflection, questions and discussion, we have established a closed Facebook Group which all workshop participants are invited to join. All the details will be provided on completion of the training.
